Course Outcomes
'Connecting through Talk – INTRODUCTION' introduces, models and practices the basic language framework of compassionate communication. At the end of this course, you will be able to
describe the framework of compassionate communication
prepare for a difficult conversation
express Observation, Feelings, Needs and Requests (OFNR) with support
The three modules are:
1. What compassionate communication is
Here we discover what speaking compassionately is about and why it is important. We look at language examples and consider what is effective, and what isn't.
2. The framework of compassion
Here we take a look at the framework. It has: two frames - Intention and Attention; four ingredients - Observation, Feelings, Needs and Requests; and three modes - Self Empathy, Honest Self Expression and Empathetic Listening.
3. Preparing for a difficult conversation
Here we apply the framework to a situation in your own life that you would like to succeed at. You are stepped through a preparation process so that when the right moment presents itself, you are ready for the conversation, speaking to be understood and listening to hear.
